Think about it, how many times were you in an emotional state and decided to flip to a song that would either validate your feelings, change your outlook or get you pumped up? Emotional, cognitive and physical responses we may have all witnessed or experienced when music was played.
Clinical music therapy is not a therapy that I’ve known anyone to use and never delved into learning much about but I can understand how it would be effective. I remember how it felt to receive a cassette tape or 8 track from someone and they told me to listen to this cause you are going to love it or this particular song talks about what you are going through well … that showed me they cared about me which made me happy.
I didn’t personally know the music artists Shannon Hoon, Kurt Cobain, Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell or Chester Bennington so I wonder if music was therapeutic to them? Did music keep them going all those years until they felt they needed to leave this world?
All were gifted, insightful, intense and great performers. I think about them often and wonder how they would have evolved, who would they have mentored, collaborated with or contributed to music in the future? It’s without saying that their music has and will influence future generations. I just wish they were here to witness it. RIP x5
