From an early age I found out that my oldest son, Millennial One, shared a common interest with me: Music. Previously, Millennial One was my source for what’s new in music that is worth listening to. Not only does he have a love for music, but our genres matched until recently. Some of the bands or artists he introduced me to were influenced by bands that I listened to. I can remember pulling up a YouTube remake of a Smashing Pumpkins song from an Australian band, Sick Puppies that in my opinion was better than the original. Well, my new discovery in music won’t replace that bond but possibly I for once can introduce him to new music.
I was in my car listening to a local radio station and the radio host mentioned the current popular music band Imagine Dragons was discovered via ReverbNation. As soon as I could I googled ReverbNation to learn all about it. The reality of this music platform was greater than my expectation. From an Information Technology perspective, ReverbNation is a gift for the artist/band, fan, and music producer. The artist/band has an established website to upload their songs for discovery and promotion in multi-formats. A knowledge base of tips to enhance their music or performance. Application and services already built in the website for the artist/band use. The fan is presented with a listing of the top ten upcoming artists/bands in multi-genres, as well as a list of all available by genre. The fan can hear the artist/band music, find out where they will be playing live and view any available video. If you want to find out who is hot with the masses, check out the Crowd Picks section of the ReverbNation website. A feature I will use is the live band/artist listing playing at local establishments. Every artist/band has a story and that is also shared. So much information you can find on a global, national, regional and local level! If you read my other articles on my website this is an example of big data at its finest! Music producers are part of a team at ReverbNation. The team evaluate the artist/band and deem whether an invite to an internal program that develops, manage and assist with furthering the artist/band future with introductions to music labels and agents. I view ReverbNation as a valuable tool that if utilized properly, could elevate the potential and success rate of music artist/bands.
ReverbNation has a mobile app that I have downloaded on my iPhone and plan to listen to new artists music ad free for an upcoming long family car trip in the near future. Millennial One and I are going to have fun listening to some new music and critiquing.
