The official White House physician, Dr. Jackson recommended to President Trump to lose 10 to 15 pounds by following a healthier diet and exercise according to Business Insider’s Science Team reporter, Jeremy Berke. Diet change is easy. Eliminate or cut down on fast food! For exercise, I would recommend that President Trump walk the pounds off. At 71 years of age, walking would be easy on his joints and fit in with his busy lifestyle. Walking is an exercise that you can multitask too. Conference phone calls using a headset can be held while walking on a treadmill. A new task for President Trump’s assistant could be to plan ahead to incorporate any walking opportunities during his day. In his personal life, he could invite family members or friends for a walk. When he retires I would encourage him to get a dog to keep him walking. Nothing gets you out of your seat fast enough when Fido has that urgency bark next to the back door. Are you rolling your eyes at that recommendation? Yes, I know he is wealthy and would most likely hire someone to walk his dog. Possibly, the bark could trigger a reminder to get moving like my Fitbit does for me?
Current public health guidelines, Health.gov, recommend 150 minutes of moderate activity per week for older adults. Incorporate the walking with some light weights and the pounds should come off quicker as well as improve strength. The physical benefits are many with walking but if done regularly it also boosts stress-busting endorphins which improves mood and self-esteem according to WebMD. Next time we see a Twitter rage from President Trump note that a good walk might have prevented it.
